I just love this photo. Every character stands out and is important as they hang on and watch this Monk taking one heckuva swing at that ball. There is such a story ~ pure Americana ~ waiting to be told. Did he hit the next ball out of the park? That was such an age of innocence... Isn't this Monk exactly how you imagined Robin Hood's cohort, Friar Tuck?
In 1968, baseball great Jimmy Piersall broke through the poor communication barriers between men and women, husbands and wives, and especially mothers and fathers when he accurately and creatively explained how to diaper a baby. He explained: "Spread the diaper in the position of the diamond with you at bat. Then fold second base down to home and set the baby on the pitcher's mound. Put first base and third together, bring up home plate and pin the three together. Of course, in case of rain, you gotta call the game and start all over again."
At that pivotal moment, Piersall managed to do what no mother has been able to persuade a father to do: change a baby's diaper. And all it took was a little baseball analogy.
