Easter, the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Vernal Equinox, was a festival dedicated to the ancient fertility goddess Ishtar (the Akkadian name of the Sumerian goddess Inanna and counterpart of the West Semitic goddess Astarte or Ashtoreth), or Eostre or Ostara, the name of the Anglo-Saxon goddess of Spring.
I am particularly fond of the church sign.
