A NOTE TO MY READERS

You might notice a slowing down of material posted for the next week or two.  Currently my Mother, all of 92, is preparing to depart from this world.  Being with Mom and my siblings and children is, naturally, of primary importance and after a day of vigil at Mom's side, there is precious little energy or inclination to delve into politics and blogging.  I don't think I have ever been so completely drained and exhausted.  I come home, as I have this evening, and I can only think of shutting my eyes and sleeping.

For now, it is an early hour for me, but I must sleep, Tomorrow will be another demanding day.  Good night.

An apple a day.... my mother Dorene Alice when she was 22, just a few days before she enlisted to serve as a nurse in the Canadian Navy during WW2.

  4. On Death
    Kahlil Gibran
You would know the secret of death.
But how shall you find it unless you seek it in the heart of life?
The owl whose night-bound eyes are blind unto the day cannot unveil the mystery of light.
If you would indeed behold the spirit of death, open your heart wide unto the body of life.
For life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one.

    In the depth of your hopes and desires lies your silent knowledge of the beyond;
And like seeds dreaming beneath the snow your heart dreams of spring.
Trust the dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity.
Your fear of death is but the trembling of the shepherd when he stands before the king whose hand is to be laid upon him in honour.
Is the shepherd not joyful beneath his trembling, that he shall wear the mark of the king?
Yet is he not more mindful of his trembling?

For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?
And what is it to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?

Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.

  7. Noor, your mom is extremely proud to have such a wonderful, loving & compassionate daughter like you. Yes, it is extremely hard to see her go but guess what ... she will be always with you in your heart, in a very special spot.

    My hugs to you.

  8. Once again, thank you all for your kind words. And yes, Musique, she will be. I am afraid that my compassion is seen as a matter of humour, a sign of being "different" but she loved me nonetheless.

At this point I just want her to go and shed the body that has betrayed her. The time draws near.
