THIS IS ME

I have been to a few blogs lately and found myself discussed and dissed in a few comment sections.  I am frequently accused of being Muslim as if it were a bad thing. There are even claims put out that "Noor is not even white".

It never fails to amuse and amaze me how many people confuse avatars with real people. The image I have worn for almost a decade now is the French actress Eva Green from her role as Sybilla in the movie Kingdom of Heaven. My name, Noor Al Haqiqa, was suggested by a friend in Cairo when I was looking for a nom de plume. It means, roughly, shining light.

Not a drop of Jewish blood in a single one of my huge interracial family. Trinidadian, Ukrainian, Sicilian, Filipino, various European nations. Not a drop of Jewish or Arabic blood to be found that we are aware of.  Well, I have a childless sister in law with Jewish ancestors but she left all that behind ... it was never even part of her life, she was raised gentile. My nieces, nephews and cousins by blood are all blue eyed blondes and my two dark eyed girls.

We are proud Canadians and have the genealogy papers going back 500+ years on both parent's sides. Irish and French.

I also know racism from a personal angle. My father never accepted my golden children the way he did the blue eyed blondes. I do not have a single photo of him with them... and that was his loss. No biggie, we girls are all very close regardless.

Just to shush these fools up, I am posting an old photo of myself with my daughter taken in July 1981. I apologize in advance for the print on my Mom's chair! When she moved out of that house, we all offered to help her do everything provided she left that furniture suite behind for the nuns who bought the house.  She agreed....

It seems like yesterday since the modelling shot below was taken. The photo of the baby as an adult with her life in order is below. It was shot a year or so ago somewhere around town.

I was politically aware back in 1981, too. After all, Ernst Zundel lived 10 houses down the street from me on Carlton in Toronto at the time. There were demos by B'Nai B'rith in front of his house, disrupting traffic, almost every Saturday afternoon.  I moved a short while before the bombing of his home. My only regret that although I was very aware, I had not yet discovered and developed my Jewdar.

When I pushed my little baby around, the recruiting KKK boys in the area used to accost me for "sullying my pure white blood" but I ignored them. My big ole dawg also kept them at bay, they had no idea that she had no front teeth, she was just mammoth. Eventually they were kicked out of the neighbourhood for other practices that were not quite savoury for a decent part of the world.

Yet, go figger, one reason that I moved to where I did was because of the weather and geography but also because it was still primarily White.

Postscript. I just went back to the blog where it is claimed I am not white. The general assumption that this is not even a photo of me posted here. Shrugs. Fools, fools, thousand time fools.

Should I post a more recent shot of myself?

Should I even bother to prove myself to such people?

Why should I care?

I don't.

I just feel sorry for such obtuse individuals. SO.... just cos I am a nice guy and in a good mood, I will post another shot of me taken just a year or so ago. Surely you will see the resemblance even after the passage of 30+ years!

Just a few years ago with one of our poodle pups.

Below is that baby of mine, 31 years later at one of her body paint sessions. The photo has only been slightly retouched. And for my detractors, she is also highly educated and lucratively employed in the field of her choice. This is from her modelling website:

I fully expect to hear that, since I posted this photo of my daughter, the next rumours about me might be that I am reptilian?

  1. Hi,
I treat your site as something of an Intuitive Read on the world. I often go to it from poorichards blog but do have it bookmarked. At one point I thought you were the woman who went to Australia for a while and found it hard to adjust--but later undeceived myself about that. But until today I thought you were one of the famous Canadian quintriplets! And that the photo was one from years ago. I also did think you might be an Islmic convert. Personally I have great admiration for Muhammad and Islam. Karen Armstrong has written some books on Islam and Muhammad. I am not sure what a golden child is but suppose you married someone who was not wasp. Good luck on future postings and all.

  2. I am not sure why you felt the need to post the Piccie Noor but thank you. You look radiant with happiness in the photo.

Please keep up the great work.

  4. Hasbara, disruptors, will continue to play their silly little games. They reap what they sow. Nothing. They are nothing.

I would call them names but I'm in the presence of a lady.

    Thanks for what you do.

  5. Dear John

Interestingly, my mother was nurse to the Dionne Quintuplets back in the late 1930's. I am currently going through her memoirs for archiving at the Quint Museum in North Bay Ontario.

A golden child is usually Eurasian or part from the South Pacific.
