ANOTHER MISCONCEPTION ABOUT ISRAEL IS EXPOSED

 MOBOCRACY AT BEN-GURION AIRPORT

(Brain washed) "Nutters" according to Jerusalem Post writer, Larry Derfner.

Jerusalem Post Journalist Larry Derfner came to Tel Aviv airport to cover the arrival of international activists. Once in the reception hall, a small Israeli mob turned on him. In a matter of seconds, he found himself in a police van.

Poor wee Israel, so very misunderstood by the world, and I agree.

Countless arguments many have said "It's the Israeli Government, not the population"!
Well, there's another myth exposed, because except for a very small quantity of decent Jewish people the majority are absolute lawless nutters who are simply so used to literally "getting away with murder" that they know no boundaries, never a good thing.
What happens when a journalist from the Jerusalem Post arrives at Ben Gurion Airport to cover the "Flytilla" So lets' take a look at what un-checked lawlessness looks like:

Anybody who believes the platitude that the people want peace, it’s just the leaders who want war, should have been at Ben-Gurion Airport today.
It’s a good thing those Free Palestine activists got arrested; otherwise, the little mob that formed spontaneously would have punched them up pretty good.

Only minutes after I got to the Arrivals hall, a few activists stood in front of the phalanx of reporters and cameramen, held up their little signs and started chanting “Israel Apartheid” and ”Free Palestine!” The cops tore the signs from their hands and started pushing them toward the exit.

A couple of dozen people, mainly men but also a few women, followed very close behind the tightly-bunched demonstrators, cops and reporters to the police van.

“Throw them in the garbage,” shouted one woman.

An old man tried to get at one of the activists, but the police stopped him.

I was there ostensibly as a journalist, and I was scribbling notes, but I felt cowardly not saying anything to these nationalist hooligans, so I started asking them in Hebrew, “What are these people doing?”

The woman who wanted them thrown in the garbage said, “They’re hurting us!”

I said, “They’re talking,” and the little mob turned on me, a couple of the men raised their fists.

The woman told me, “Go back home, get out of here,”

I said, “I live here.”

The cops mistook me for a demonstrator, put me in the police van, but when I showed them my press card, they let me go.

Let me repeat ~ the police started off arresting the demonstrators, but very shortly their main task was to keep them from being assaulted. They had to hold back the herd ~ and that’s what these people were, a herd incited by the idea that these protesters, non-violent protesters trying to get to the West Bank, were a menace, an immediate threat to their security.

An Israeli woman confronts a local left-wing activist
as he flashes the victory sign from a police van after he was arrested.

And I do not buy the idea that these people are helpless pawns being manipulated by the government, the media, the right-wing politicians.
Most Israelis, even if they wouldn’t join a mob like the one at the airport, want to hear the belligerent rhetoric the opinion-makers are feeding them.
They hate anybody who says anything bad about Israel, and take their words automatically as “blood libels.”
The opinion-makers know this, and the ones who are popular and want to stay that way tell the people what they want to hear.
An Israeli border policeman arrests a local left-wing activist July 8, 2011 at the Ben Gurion airport near Tel Aviv, Israel. A group of Israeli protesters gathered to welcome 'Pro-Palestinian Fly-In' activists who traveled in a mass protest to visit to the West Bank.
 Who’s manipulating whom is a chicken-and-egg question.
Watching my enraged countrymen at Ben-Gurion, I imagined the daily headlines having been distilled into a kind of political methadrine and mainlined into their veins.
Few Israelis would join them in physically going after people chanting slogans.
But in their insistence that protesters like these be silenced because their words are acts of violence, acts of war, of terrorism, they represent the majority.

They are an authentic expression of the national will.

Theirs is the loudest voice in the land, it’s joined by the voice of Netanyahu, the government, the settlers and most of the media.

All competing voices are drowned out.
Which is why these foreign activists on these flotillas, whatever I or anybody else thinks of the totality of their politics, are absolutely vital not only to the Palestinians, but to Israel. They’re bringing oxygen to a suffocating nation.

PRO-PALESTINIAN ACTIVISTS DETAINED

IN ISRAEL ~  DENIED ACCESS TO LAWYERS

July 10, 2011

Forty pro-Palestinian activists detained in Israel for trying to reach Gaza are being denied access to a lawyer. According to pro-Palestinian activist Ronnie Barkan, Israel’s reaction is nothing less than sheer hysteria.
What we just saw at the airport a couple of days ago is not out of the ordinary,” said Barkan. “It is amazing that peace activists who clearly just want to show their solidarity and insist on basic values of universally recognized human rights are considered such a big threat by Israel.”
At least 500 pro-Palestinian activists arrived in Israel in recent days as part of a "flight-illa,” a mission to highlight what they perceive as Palestinian suffering in the West Bank. Fifty activists from among them clashed with security forces in two separate incidents in the West Bank village of Nabi Saleh late on Saturday. Some of the protesters hurled stones at Israeli soldiers, who responded by making several arrests.

Israel says all pro-Palestinian activists detained at the country's international airport will soon be sent home.

Barkan said the activists’ actions cannot be called provocative.
“What is happening is that over 500 Europeans and Americans chose to tell the truth and not lie to the border police,” Barkan told RT. “They stated they arrived to visit Palestinians, and were invited by their Palestinian colleagues. For doing this, they received absurd treatment by police and other security forces.”
Barkan, who is a member of the “Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions” movement against Israel, said they simply want Israel to abide by international law.
“Until Israel respects universally-recognized human rights, we will continue to discuss the establishment of the State of Israel as an ethnic racist entity,” stated Barkan. “It led to the expulsion of over 700, 000 native Palestinians who are scattered everywhere around the world these days. Seventy percent of the Palestinians are refugees; others who are now living on Israeli territory do not have equal rights with Israeli citizens.”
Anan Odeh, an attorney and a human rights lawyer, managed to spend the day with the detained activists. He told RT that their treatment in prison has been awful.

Thuggish looking military at the airport. Israel's finest.
“Most of the detained said that Israeli soldiers and security forces treated them very badly,” said Odeh. “Some claim to have been beaten up by soldiers, who even hit women. The activists were held in tiny rooms at the airport without hearing any explanation of why they were not allowed to enter Israel. They were promised to be taken to hotels, but instead were crammed in vehicles used for transporting prisoners. They were kept there for more than 4-5 hours without water or food.”
The activists did not expect to receive such treatment.
“They came for peaceful activism,” said the lawyer. “They told Israeli security forces they did not want to take part in any demonstrations or break the Israeli law in any way. They just wanted to arrive to the West Bank and to meet the Palestinians and support them.”

FACEBOOK HELPED GOVERNMENTS SPY ON AND ARREST FLYTILLA ACTIVISTS

CENSORED BY FACEBOOK:

July 10, 2011

Censored News

Alexander Higgins’ online report about how Facebook helped spy on and arrest fly-in supporters to Palestine this week, could not be posted on Facebook today, as seen in this screen capture.

Facebook is not only helping governments to spy on, and arrest peace activists, but it is censoring a news article on what happened to the fly-in activists supporting Palestine. Activists were halted at airports in Europe this week, and others detained in Tel Aviv on Friday, as they attempted to travel to Palestine.

The ’Flytilla’ supporters responded after Greece halted the Gaza Freedom Flotilla boats from departing, under pressure from Israel and the United States.

Alexander Higgins reports in his blog:

“Facebook aided Israel in cracking down on the group of activists from the UK, France and Belgium who planned their event using the popular social networking site.
According to the report, Facebook allowed government agents to track the activists’ activities and then create a black-list of people who participated in the planning of the protests.
“The group of black-listed people was then forwarded to airlines with instructions to prevent the activists from boarding air flights to Israel. Over 200 activists were prevented from flying after being added to the airlines terrorism watch list, according the the AP report.”
Aljazeera also reported on how Facebook was used to halt and arrest the Flytilla activists. Aljazeera reported.
“According to the Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz, police and intelligence units followed social networks used by the groups organising the protest,”
http://english.aljazeera.net/news/middleeast/2011/07/201178154823642194.html
In his articles, Higgins also reveals an extensive spy operation, as uncovered in documents by hacktivists AntiSec, Anonymous and Lulzsec.
“A sinister cyber surveillance plot revealed in this rare fascinating look deep into the underground world of the fascist partnership of corporate and government black operations.

“I recently pointed out some of the shocking details of the cyber surveillance spy program unveiled by the Anonymous release of the HBGary Federal emails as discussed by the UK newspaper the Guardian.

“While those details revealed mounds of shocking information, such as top secret military black ops being run in partnership with the likes of Google, Facebook and AT&T to spy on online activities to gather data for the government to run mass propaganda operations and manipulate the news, the reality is the email dump contains over 70,000 emails and only as the emails are further dug through and analyzed will the full extent of the operations be revealed.”
Read more on Higgins blog about the new spy operations Infraguard and Romas/COIN.

Higgins’ blog also includes the report form Censored News about the off-duty Marines who are hunting migrants on the border at Sasabe, Arizona, with assault weapons, as revealed in the data release in hacked Arizona police files.

 JULIAN ASSANGE:

FACEBOOK IS A “SPY MACHINE”

FOR US INTELLIGENCE

While talking to Russia Today about recent revolutions in the Middle East and the role of social media, Assange explained that Facebook is “the world’s most comprehensive database about people, their relationships, their names, their addresses, their locations, their communications with each other, and their relatives, all sitting within the United States, all accessible to U.S. Intelligence.”

In the interesting interview, Assange added that it’s not just Facebook, but Google and Yahoo as well as all other major U.S. organizations have developed built-in interfaces for U.S. Intelligence. It helps get around the costly and time-consuming serving of subpoenas.

Not that Facebook is run by U.S. Intelligence agencies, but instead of handing out records “one by one,” it saves Facebook time and money to have “automated the process” for spying. Assange believes that all Facebook users should understand that by adding friends, it connects the dots, builds the databases, and doesfree work for United States intelligence agencies.”

It’s no surprise that U.S. Intelligence trawls millions of websites, Twitter feeds, YouTube, and blog posts, looking for connections between people, groups, and events. That job must surely be a madhouse right now.

AMERICA, THIS IS JUST ONE SMALL STORY YOUR MEDIA DOES NOT SHOW YOU

 ASK WHY NOT.
WHAT DO THEY FEAR YOU WILL LEARN?

When Folks like Kathy Kelly Visit Palestine by Sea or by Air,
Netanyahu Panics

NETANYAHU PANICS ~
AMERICAN AND EUROPEAN ACTIVISTS FLYTILLA

I do not think the "man" (if I may so loosely use the term) panics as much as gets ticked off that people are not obeying his wishes.  He has spent millions of dollars working the Israeli people up into a lather over this attack on their safety and security and now he must behave accordingly to "save them" from the vicious activists who we all know are loaded down with that weapon of mass destruction ~ the international media. This is, of course, why we in Canada and the US see and hear NOTHING of these doings unless we hit the alternative media, the Internet, and even then, know where to search.

Netanyahu is a tyrant, a liar, a creature with a ten-forked tongue not to be trusted for a split second when it comes to his overweening hubris and against humanitarians who employ such actions as having the AUDACITY to be peaceful is a battle Netanyahu knows he cannot win; so he is behaving as a petulant child crossed with naked emperor and losing although he will never admit it.

“I, and another US Boat to Gaza campaign member, Missy Lane, will head to Tel Aviv, where we plan to be part of a “flytilla,” a new campaign which will bring hundreds of activists together in Israel’s Ben Gurion airport, all of us intent on reaching Palestinian refugee camps and/or visiting Gazan families.” ~ Kathy Kelly
Kathy Kelly
When the Israeli government discovered that a large contingent of American and European activists were coming to visit Palestine, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu went into his full military stance.
He made one huge mistake. He forgot to ask: What is the enemy’s goal? If he had asked himself that question, he would have known that the overarching purpose of the flotilla and the flytilla was to draw attention to the harsh and ugly reality that Israel maintains absolute military control over the lives of Palestinians living under occupation in Gaza and the West Bank.

Did he not know, could he not have realized, what a burden it is for the New York Times to cover up the harsh and ugly reality of occupation when Israel so dramatically shuts its doors to anyone it brands as “pro-Palestinian”?

Israeli police detain pro-Palestine activists in Ben Gurion Airport
to prevent activists from entering Palestine

In its report on the airport blockade, The Times was forced to use a headline that said the visitors were blocked from attending a “conference” in Bethlehem. That did not come out very well for Netanyahu. The Israeli line was that the visitors were blocked because they were a threat to Israeli security. Both the Times and Israel know that “conferences” are held in Bethlehem all the time without all this fuss.

How is this flytilla different? Could it be because this “conference” was clearly intended to draw world attention to Israel’s treatment not only of Palestinians, but also to its behavior toward friends of Palestinians?

The Times inserts a brief observation that Palestine has no airport of its own. And why, pray tell, an astute reader will want to know, is there no airport in Palestine? The Times does not say. It also fails to mention that Israel will not permit Palestinians to build their own airport. Nothing gets built in occupied Palestine without Israeli approval.

In her Friday story, the Time’s Isabel Kershner reported that Israel was aware that the air travelers had been invited by Palestinian activists to come to Bethlehem for a week of “fellowship and actions”.

Most of the foreigners who planned to fly to Tel Aviv and join the “Welcome to Palestine” initiative were either deterred from trying to come or were prevented from boarding flights to Israel by foreign airlines, on instructions from the Israelis.

The Palestinian hosts decried the Israeli measures, but also chalked up a small victory

Fadi Kattan, a Palestinian organizer, said at a news conference in Bethlehem that he was “pleased ~ sadly pleased” that the episode had exposed what he described as Israel’s draconian anti-Palestinian policies

Netanyahu’s initial response to this planned event proved once again that a man in a panic does not think clearly. Instead of letting the party go forward, Israeli authorities put together a “no fly” list of “peace and justice” passengers believed to be “threats” to Israel’s security.

Outside groups are frequently invited to Palestine to travel to Bethlehem and other parts of both Israel and Palestine to talk, pray and plan. Religious types often get through passport control clutching a Bible or a guidebook to the “holy sites”. It also helps if you know the name of an Israeli rabbi, just in case you get into a second round of questioning. But this time was different. Both sides knew the game was on.

Ha’aretz reported:
Over the past few days, hundreds of police officers were deployed in and around the airport near Tel Aviv. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu toured the base of operations at Ben-Gurion with his internal security minister, the police chief, security branch representatives and immigration officials

Netanyahu demanded that European airport authorities do to air passengers what the Greek Coast Guard did to the flotilla, halt them at the alpha point. Knowing some passengers would make it to Tel Aviv, Netanyahu took personal command of his second line of defense, Ben Gurion airport.

Ben Gurion authorities had to sift through the long line of American and British Bible tour groups, Christian pilgrims, business travelers, and the European Holy Land travelers, to find those dangerous passengers who made it through the security net.

Al Jazeera reported that “of the 600 Tel Aviv-bound pro-Palestine activists who wanted to fly Friday, the majority were prevented from boarding their flights”.
The Palestinians and their international allies had set Netanyahu up.  He fell for it hard in his response to the Freedom to Enter flytilla campaign which originated in Bethlehem under local Palestinian leaders like Mazin Qumsiyeh.
Netanyahu’s over reaction to the international flotilla left him looking like the town bully who gets his way with other nations by using his Daddy’s money.  In the case of both the flytilla and the flotilla, Netanyahu is the big loser.

Kathy Kelly is shown in action in the picture above, holding her weapon, a microphone. She was one of those passengers who made it to Tel Aviv. She was already well-known to Israeli officials, just as she is well known to her many friends and admirers elsewhere, including those of us in her home town of Chicago, Illinois, where the author of this blog, in the interest of full disclosure, must confess to having known, and admired her, for more than two decades.

Kelly was among the passengers on the Audacity of Hope, the US ship which was sailing to Gaza, when it was intercepted by the Greek Coast Guard. Undaunted, she wrote in The Palestine Chronicle that she would fly to Tel Aviv. She explained her reactions as she prepared to leave Athens:
I leave Greece tonight with sincere regret that I didn’t spend more time learning from these sturdy activists

I and another US Boat to Gaza campaign member, Missy Lane, will head to Tel Aviv, where we plan to be part of a “flytilla,” a new campaign which will bring hundreds of activists together in Israel’s Ben Gurion airport, all of us intent on reaching Palestinian refugee camps and/or visiting Gazan families

Earlier this evening, a group of U.S. activists who’ve been able to remain longer, here in Athens, demonstrated at each of the heavily guarded streets leading to the residence of the U.S. Ambassador to Greece. The Ambassador is hosting a huge festival tonight, in celebration of the U.S. July 4 holiday that commemorates independence.

Several Greek people passing us read our signs seeking freedom for Gaza and asked us to understand that as recently as one year ago, the government of Greece showed no sign of submitting to Israeli or U.S. pressure and allowed international flotilla boats to sail.

But, now. they are dependent on the whims of financial elites around the world. The IMF is prescribing draconian measures which will wreck their economy and make them subservient to the dictates of foreign multinationals
Kelly and Missy Lane landed at Ben Gurion, but they were detained by airport authorities. No word yet on what will happen next to the two of them, though a swift return back home is likely.

Kelly, by the way, would be the first to insist that we acknowledge here that she is but one of more than 600 travelers who participated in both the flotilla and flytilla projects. There are many more Kathy Kelly stories among those peace and justice travelers to Palestine. And their number is growing. No wonder Netanyahu is in such a panic.

Here are the beginning words from the citation presented to Kelly from the Justice Studies Association when Kelly was awarded the 2011 Noam Chomsky honor for her work on peace and justice issues:

PIPPA BARTOLOTTI ON RT,
THE ONE WHO MADE IT THROUGH,
SPEAKS AND ASKS WHAT NETANYAHU FEARS

Kathy Kelly is a long-time pacifist and co-coordinator of Voices for Creative Nonviolence. A tireless activist whose efforts toward peace transcend borders, regions and time zones, writer Studs Terkel wrote of her:
“She has visited more countries, cities and small towns not listed in Baedeker’s [travel guide] than anyone I have ever known.”
Born, raised and educated in Chicago ~ as a student at St. Paul-Kennedy High School, Kelly watched the film Night and Fog which exposed her to the horrors of the Holocaust. She also was exposed to the writings of Daniel Berrigan and the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. All of this convinced her to make a commitment never to sit by and watch evil happen.
*
 Soldiers en masse everywhere

Now 58, Kelly has spent her life living up to her commitment. Over the last 30 years, she has helped the victims of war wherever they were ~ whether in Bosnia, Haiti, the West Bank, Iraq or Afghanistan. A war tax resister since 1982, Kelly has perhaps most notably used her resources (financial and spiritual) to provide medicine and other supplies to those trapped by the politics of militarism. Kelly co-founded Voices in the Wilderness, a peace group that highlighted the suffering of Iraqi civilians during the U.N. imposed economic sanctions of the 1990s. (To read the complete citation, click here.)

No American television coverage has yet to emerge from the flytilla. But there is clip available from the English language channel of RT (Russia Television), which provides an interview with Pippa Bartolotti, a British passenger who made it successfully through Ben Gurion passport control.
