Commenting on the latest Israeli one-directional onslaught against the Palestinians of Gaza Strip, the Israeli 10th TV channel has disclosed that the Israeli genocidal forces had used half of its air force and had launched at least 2500 air raids against Gaza Strip. The television military correspondent stated that the Israeli warplanes had dropped more than a thousand tons of explosives, including white phosphorous and DIME (Dense Inert Metal Explosive) bombs, during three weeks on the virtually unarmed densely populated 360 square Kilometers Strip. He added that the shells fired by tanks, artillery, gunboats, and infantry were not included in those fired by the air force.

After a whole week of continuous air bombardments Israel sent in its elite foot soldiers; 30,000 of them, and called in 10,000 of its reservists. Armed with the latest weapons of mass murder, covered with an umbrella of free reigning air force, and accompanied with raining shells of heavy artillery, they drove their tanks into the civilian towns murdering civilians and destroying every structure in their path.

Living outside of Gaza one cannot fully understand the barbarity of this genocide especially when the Western media had barely covered any of its atrocity. To gain a slight idea of its enormity one should remember that, during the 6-days war of 1967, this same Israeli army was distributed on four fronts; Egyptian, Jordanian, Syrian, and Lebanese, and it was fighting regular armies. Now the whole brunt of this army is concentrated on a small strip against an unarmed and untrained civilian population 50% of whom are under 20.

Latest official count was 1350 murdered, 40% of them were children, and 5300 were injured; mutilated and amputated. It was reported that 80% of the injured were the victims of burning phosphorous bombs. More dead are being discovered under the rubble, and many seriously injured are expected later on to die.

Israeli tanks left several city blocks completely destroyed without any homes or structure standing. The tanks shelled homes and apartment towers. Due to the small size of Gaza Strip Palestinians had to build vertically. Many apartment towers went up 15-20 stories high with each story containing 6-8 apartments. A total of 20,000 buildings were completely or partially burnt and damaged.

The UN has reported that more than 50,000 Palestinians are left homeless and are now crowded into 50 emergency shelters. An estimated of 50,000 more are living with relatives and in tents they erected on the ruins of their homes.

The Israeli bombardment targeted everything in Gaza including government buildings, police headquarters, banks and business offices, the main university, 67 schools sheltering civilians, shopping centers and market places, factories, water, sewer, and electricity infrastructures, private homes and apartment towers and charity organizations.

Farms, including their animals, were also targeted and hundreds of acres of crops and fruit groves were incinerated. Religious buildings, where civilians usually seek shelter, were specifically targeted. Israeli fighter planes had completely destroyed 41 mosques, and partially damaged 51 others. One church was also targeted. Even cemeteries were not spared; 5 of them were bombed. People spoke of it raining body parts; due to land constraints bodies were packed many into single graves.

This window once looked out on the family's olive grove and vegetable gardens. Green no more, this family has lost all, is displaced. This has happened to thousands of families over the years.

Although the Israeli army was given the exact GPS co-ordinates of every UN structure, as asserted by Christopher Gunness, the UNRWA spokesman, Israeli F-16 planes had repeatedly dropped phosphorous bombed on UN schools knowing very well that hundreds of civilians had taken shelter there. At least 45 children and women were burnt and murdered there.

The UN headquarters in Gaza City was also hit with three, not just one, phosphorous bombs burning tons of humanitarian aid and food stuff. The fire kept burning for three days. A UN-flagged humanitarian convoy was also shelled killing one driver.

Medical centers and paramedics were not spared. The Red Crescent Al-Quds hospital in Tal el-Hawa neighborhood was hit by Israeli shells and caught on fire. Other two hospitals; Al-Wafa and Al-Fata hospitals, were also shelled, leading the World Health Organization to express its deep concern about the serious implications of such bombardments. 16 other smaller health clinics and 16 ambulances were also damaged. Medics were targeted and prevented from helping the injured. Ten of them, including two doctors, were murdered.

Media centers were particularly targeted. Local and international news reporters were prevented from entering Gaza. Those, who were able to enter, were directly targeted. The Al-Shuruq office tower housing several international and Arab media outlets was directly hit. Two cameramen working for Abu Dhabi TV were injured, while the offices of Reuters News Agency, Fox TV, Sky, and Al-Arabiya TV offices were damaged. Another raid had damaged the headquarter offices of Al-Resala newspaper.

Similar to all their previous wars the Israeli soldiers had committed massacres against Palestinian unarmed civilians. They have used internationally banned weapons such as phosphorous bombs, DIME, and depleted uranium, as reported by international physicians, eyewitnesses, and military experts.

Israeli soldiers had mutilated the bodies of their victims to instill terror in the hearts of people hoping they will leave Gaza. Israeli soldiers herded many families in one building using them as human shield, and then later on bombed the building on top of them.

They shot civilians, mainly children, directly and at point blank. The bodies of some children were found shot several times; as many as 18 bullets in the body of a 12 year old girl, and 12 bullets in the body of her 2 year old sister.

Israeli soldiers wiped off whole Palestinian families. Al-Samuni family lost 11 members, Abu Aisha family lost 6, Batran family lost 6, al-Rayyan family lost 15 and al-Balousha family lost 5 sisters.

Other families, too many to mention here, were either murdered or incinerated by the phosphorous bombs.

The Israeli army has been carrying out a deliberate indiscriminate mass murder. During the first Intifada, 1987 – 1993, they murdered 1162 Palestinians.

During the second Intifada, 2001- 2006, they murdered 5500 Palestinians.

Now, in a short period of three weeks, they murdered 1350 Palestinians.

This onslaught is a holocaust since the many tons of phosphorous bombs, dropped on Gaza cities, had burnt civilians to the bones, burnt their homes and buildings, and burnt their fields and crops. This is the holocaust that the Israeli Deputy Defense Minister, Matan Vilnai, had threatened Palestinians with when he stated: 

“the more Qassam fire intensifies and the rockets reach a longer range, they will bring upon themselves a bigger shoah (holocaust) because we will use all our might to defend ourselves.”

One cannot help but wonder how could a group of people, who claim to be the victims of a holocaust, commit another holocaust against another nation. What is it that feeds, perpetuates and intensifies this Judaic genocidal spirit although all Arabs, including Palestinians, had offered these Zionist Jews many agreements of coexistence, peace and security? The answer comes through their media outlets, through the words of their scholarly educators, and through the teachings of their Rabbis.

“All of the Palestinians must be killed;

men, women, infants, and even their beasts”

So cries the religious opinion of Rabbi Yisrael Rosen, the director of the long-established Tsomet Religious Institute. He wrote that Palestinians are like the nation of Amalekites, who attacked the Israelite tribes led by Moses on their way to Jerusalem. He stated that the Lord sent down in the Torah a ruling that allowed the Jews to kill the Amalekites, and that this ruling is known in Jewish jurisprudence.

“Annihilate the Amalekites from the beginning to the end. Kill them and wrest them from their possessions. Show them no mercy. Kill continuously, one after the other. Leave no child, plant, or tree. Kill their beasts, from camels to donkeys.”

Rosen stated that Amalekites are not a particular race, but rather all those who hate and oppose the Jews; Christians and Muslims. Many leading Israeli Rabbis support Rosen’s views. Israel’s former Sephardic Chief Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu advocated carpet bombing of Gaza stating that:

“there is absolutely no moral prohibition

against the indiscriminate killing of civilians

during massive military offensive on Gaza”

His son Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu amplified his father’s genocidal call stating:

“if they don’t stop after we kill 100,

then we must kill a thousand,

then we must kill 10,000 and even a million”

"A state that really respects the lives of its citizens would have hanged all 10 sons of the terrorist on a tree 50 amot [25 meters] tall, so that others would see it and be afraid," wrote Eliahu, according to the Jerusalem Post.

"We have to exact a revenge
that is so painful,
it will burn into the souls of all our enemies
the message that Jewish blood
is more valuable
than gold and platinum."

Many Rabbis had argued that Palestinians in Gaza are not innocent civilians and that during war time it is not individuals but nations the Israelis are fighting. (It seems that Hitler adopted this Telmudic teaching when he persecuted all European Jews). Many Israeli educators, scholars, and politicians, openly, advocate the annihilation of all Palestinians. Dr. Nachum Rakover, a legal scholar, opined: 

“They voted for killers (Hamas) and sent them to kill us. To call them (civilians) innocent is a tragic comedy… civilians are partners of the killers”

Eli Yeshai, Israeli official in the Orthodox Shas party argued that:

“extermination of the enemy is sanctioned by the Torah”

Many other politicians called for the need for “wiping off Gaza from the face of earth”, and “annihilating of every moving thing there.” The right-wing Israeli politician Avigdor Lieberman proposed nuking Gaza following the US example when it dropped the atomic bomb on Japan during WWII.

This “ideology of annihilation” is by no means a minority opinion in Israel. The popular attitude is:

“if it was right by God to order us to commit genocide
during Biblical time,
why can’t it be right to commit genocide now.
Has God changed his mind?”

The Israeli spokesman, Nachman Abramovic demonized Palestinian children stating:

“They may look young to you,

but these people are terrorists at heart.

Don’t look at their deceptively innocent faces,

try to think of the demons inside each of them.

I am absolutely certain these people

would grow to be evil terrorists

if we allowed them to grow.

Would you allow them to grow to kill your children

or finish them off right now?

Honest and moral people ought to differentiate

between true humans and human animals.

We do kill human animals

and we do so unapologetically.

Besides, who in the West is in a position

to lecture us on killing human animals.

After all, whose hands are clean?”

The human animal mentioned by Abramovic refers to the Judaic religious belief that Jews are Gods chosen people; the elite and the pure-blooded, while all others (non-Jews, Goyims, gentiles) are animal souls incarnated into human bodies to serve the Jews. Killing a human animal is just a sport like hunting deer or birds.

Another Israeli spokeswoman, Tzipora Menache, stated that she was not worried about negative ramifications the Israeli onslaught on Gaza might have on the way the Obama administration would view Israel. She said:

“You know very well,

and the stupid Americans know equally well,

that we control their government,

irrespective of who sits in the White House.

You see, I know it and you know it

that no American president

can be in a position to challenge us

even if we do the unthinkable.

What can they (Americans) do to us?

We control congress,

we control the media,

we control show biz,

and we control everything in America. 

In America you can criticize God,

but you can’t criticize Israel”

THE TORTURE BAN THAT DOES NOT BAN TORTURE

Obama's Rules Keep It Intact, and Could Even Accord With an Increase in US-Sponsored Torture Worldwide

If you're lying on the slab still breathing, with your torturer hanging over you, you don't much care if he is an American or a mere United States ~ sponsored trainee.

When President Obama declared flatly this week that "the United States will not torture" many people wrongly believed that he'd shut the practice down, when in fact he'd merely repositioned it.

Obama's Executive Order bans some ~ not all ~ US officials from torturing but it does not ban any of them, himself included, from sponsoring torture overseas.

Indeed, his policy change affects only a slight percentage of US-culpable tortures and could be completely consistent with an increase in US-backed torture worldwide.

The catch lies in the fact that since Vietnam, when US forces often tortured directly, the US has mainly seen its torture done for it by proxy ~ paying, arming, training and guiding foreigners doing it, but usually being careful to keep Americans at least one discreet step removed.NNN

That is, the US tended to do it that way until Bush and Cheney changed protocol, and had many Americans laying on hands, and sometimes taking digital photos.

The result was a public relations fiasco that enraged the US establishment since by exposing US techniques to the world it diminished US power.

But despite the outrage, the fact of the matter was that the Bush/Cheney tortures being done by Americans were a negligible percentage of all of the tortures being done by US clients.

For every torment inflicted directly by Americans in Iraq, Afghanistan, Guantanamo and the secret prisons, there were many times more being meted out by US-sponsored foreign forces.

Those forces were and are operating with US military, intelligence, financial or other backing in Egypt, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, Pakistan, Jordan, Indonesia, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Colombia, Nigeria, and the Philippines, to name some places, not to mention the tortures sans-American-hands by the US-backed Iraqis and Afghans

What the Obama dictum ostensibly knocks off is that small percentage of torture now done by Americans while retaining the overwhelming bulk of the system's torture, which is done by foreigners under US patronage.

Obama could stop backing foreign forces that torture, but he has chosen not to do so.

His Executive Order instead merely pertains to treatment of "...an individual in the custody or under the effective control of an officer, employee, or other agent of the United States Government, or detained within a facility owned, operated, or controlled by a department or agency of the United States, in any armed conflict..." which means that it doesn't even prohibit direct torture by Americans outside environments of "armed conflict," which is where much torture happens anyway since many repressive regimes aren't in armed conflict.

And even if, as Obama says, "the United States will not torture," it can still pay, train, equip and guide foreign torturers, and see to it that they, and their US patrons, don't face local or international justice.

This is a return to the status quo ante, the torture regime of Ford through Clinton, which, year by year, often produced more US-backed strapped-down agony than was produced during the Bush/Cheney years.

Under the old ~ now new again ~ proxy regime Americans would, say, teach interrogation/torture, then stand in the next room as the victims screamed, feeding questions to their foreign pupils. That's the way the US did it in El Salvador under JFK through Bush Sr. (For details see my "Behind the Death Squads: An exclusive report on the U.S. role in El Salvador’s official terror," The Progressive, May, 1984 ; the US Senate Intelligence Committee report that piece sparked is still classified, but the feeding of questions was confirmed to me by Intelligence Committee Senators. In Guatemala under Bush Sr. and Clinton (Obama's foreign policy mentors) the US backed the army's G-2 death squad which kept comprehensive files on dissidents and then electroshocked them or cut off their hands. (The file/ surveillance system was launched for them in the '60s and '70s by CIA/ State/ AID/ special forces; for the history see "Behind the Death Squads," cited above, and the books of Prof. Michael McClintock).

The Americans on the ground in the Guatemalan operation, some of whom I encountered and named, effectively helped to run the G-2 but, themselves, tiptoed around its torture chambers. (See my "C.I.A. Death Squad," The Nation [US], April 17, 1995, "The Country Team," The Nation [US], June 5, 1995, letter exchange with US Ambassador Stroock, The Nation [US], May 29, 1995, and Allan Nairn and Jean-Marie Simon, "Bureaucracy of Death," The New Republic, June 30, 1986).

It was a similar story in Bush Sr. and Clinton's Haiti ~ an operation run by today's Obama people ~ where the DIA (Defense Intelligence Agency) helped launch the terrorist group FRAPH, the CIA paid its leader, and FRAPH itsef laid the machetes on Haitian civilians, torturing and killing as US proxies.

In today's Thailand ~ a country that hardly comes to mind when most people think of torture ~ special police and militaries get US gear and training for things like "target selection" and then go out and torture Thai Malay Muslms in the rebel deep south, and also sometimes (mainly Buddhist) Burmese refugees and exploited northern and west coast workers.

Not long ago I visited a key Thai interrogator who spoke frankly about army/ police/ intel torture and then closed our discussion by saying "Look at this," and invited me into his back room.

It was an up to date museum of plaques, photos and awards from US and Western intelligence, including commendations from the CIA counter-terrorism center (then run by people now staffing Obama), one-on-one photos with high US figures, including George W. Bush, a medal from Bush, various US intel/ FBI/ military training certificates, a photo of him with an Israeli colleague beside a tank in the Occupied Territories, and Mossad, Shin Bet, Singaporean, and other interrogation implements and mementos.

On my way out, the Thai intel man remarked that he was due to re-visit Langley soon.

His role is typical. There are thousands like him worldwide. US proxy torture dwarfs that at Guantanamo.

Many Americans, to their credit, hate torture. The Bush/Cheney escapade exposed that.

But to stop it they must get the facts and see that Obama's ban does not stop it, and indeed could even accord with an increase in US-sponsored torture crime.

In lieu of action, the system will grind on tonight. More shocks, suffocations, deep burns. And the convergence of thousands of complex minds on one simple thought: 'Please, let me die.'

The death toll in Gaza is rising, while the world’s leaders and media look away in search of a new story.

We will not look away. The Palestinians in Gaza need our help now, just as they did when Israel’s bombs and illegal weapons were dropping.

Thousands of people have contacted me to say that they have marched, cried at the television pictures and feel helpless in the face of the suffering.

That’s why I have launched a major initiative in response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. I will be leading an aid convoy from London to Gaza leaving on 14 February and traveling through France, Spain, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt and through Rafah and into Gaza. It will bring material aid and raise the banner of Palestine in all the countries that we visit.

The convoy will be led by a British fire engine, ambulances, and many trucks full of practical aid given by the various communities in Britain.

It is quite an undertaking, which I anticipate will have a high public profile throughout its journey and on its arrival in Gaza, god willing, some 30 days later.

The convoy is already supported by the Stop the War Coalition – which organized the largest demonstrations in British history – as well as the Anglo-Arab Organization, several British trade unions and a large number of Muslim organizations. Fund raising for the convoy is taking place all over Britain.

THE DANGEROUS MYTHOLOGY OF AMERICAN HOPE

This following piece, The Dangerous Mythology of American Hope, perfectly captures my feelings about the cult of Obama that has been cultivated in America, and around the globe, for the past months. From the moment Queen Oprah embraced him publically, I have felt Obama to be no more substantial than a blank sheet of paper. When placed beside men of true substance, of whom there are so few in these modern times , the man just did not measure up. Never was this better highlighted than in THIS short YouTube film in which both Martin Luther King Jr. and Obama are featured. I saw Obama address AIPAC and, alas, it was obvious whom he would slavishly serve, and it would not be the American people.

On the night of his election, when I saw the incredibly uplifting exuberance of Harlem, I felt their immediate exhilaration but deep inside I knew the truth: the party would not last long. This man will betray us all and that these people will feel doubly betrayed.

Never before have we witnessed so much attention paid to a President Elect. His ideas and opinions on everything were publicized, a front as Busch robbed the nation of its last few crumbs, but when it came to something as crucial as the horrors of the Israeli attack on Gaza, he was silent. That is when my worst fears were confirmed.

These past few months have witnessed a seismic shift in the emotional landscape of the American psyche. For the first time in a great while, the concept of "hope" entered our minds.

First as a barely whispered notion so tenuous the very mention might ruin its chances of materialization. Sullen and fatigued, we dare not lift our collective melancholy out of fear for another catastrophe of failed expectations.

Then, the seemingly impossible happened ~ the gossamer tendrils of a nascent optimism grew from our hushed longings. Suddenly, and without warning, we saw the possibilities of something we had dare not utter; hope.




Now, as this unimaginable arc has delivered its trajectory of full-on hope into the hearts and minds of millions, we are reinvigorated with a sanguine confidence we thought long dead. And here my friends, my conspiratorious speculators, my treasured debate adversaries, and revered readers is the danger of our time.

Hope is a far more dangerous manipulator than fear.

Fear, as a deviously clever device intended for the manipulation of the masses, has been the primary exploitative methodology of the so-called "Powers That Be" for decades. Under the guise of fearful concern for our collective safety, numerous ill-deeds have been perpetrated in our (society's) name. While we (the larger "we" of the nation as a whole) may have great disdain for what has been done, we tolerated the "hard choices" as a fair exchange for safety and security ~ while forgetting we have neither.




Hope, especially on the heels of fear, is a far more dangerous and cunning method of control. From the acceptance speech to the inaugural address, our emotions have been expertly carried down a path from baited breath to tearful expectancy. My friends, my conspiratorious speculators, my treasured debate adversaries, and revered readers be not fooled by the grand show playing out in the monstrous amphitheater of American politics. Step back, take pause, deep breath, and recall the reasons and misgivings that inspired your visits to a conspiracy theory web site. There is no "change" other than a new act in the same old play.

Certainly, we have witnessed the historic rise of a Black Man to the most important position of leadership in the world. An accomplishment worthy of a resounding chorus of hope.




Clearly, this man presents ideas and an apparent strategic direction diametrically different than those before him. A stunning injection of violins and violas to the chorus.

Passionately, this man speaks with conviction and evokes the change we longed for. Oboes, clarinets, and french horns pick up the melody of hope, complimenting the strings and voices.

Transformational, are his first acts in office as we applaud bold corrective actions. Drums, cymbals, and percussion transform the beautiful melody of hope into an ambitious march of expectancy.




There is no "change" other than a new act in the same old play. The same orchestra is playing. The same conductor is in charge. The same venue holds the show. Only the music has changed.

What nefarious manipulations may now be accomplished under the guise of hope that could not happen under the specter of fear?
