BOB MARLEY: GET UP! STAND UP! STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS!

When I was involved in a major group protest in the early 1990's I remember being just thrilled every time I turned on our office computer which geared up to the opening lines of this song. I knew nothing about computers then and thought it was just soo darn cool. And it was!

OK, I know these lyrics are tough to remember, but try to sing along and lighten yourself up a bit. Take them to heart. Who can listen to Bob and not feel empowered? This is, of course, why he was assassinated. They could not do it violently, they had seen how that made the victim become a permanent martyr, so they did it clandestinely. But not before Bob's spirit touched the spirit of the world.

What a dangerous man he was!

Get up, stand up, stand up for your rights
Get up, stand up, stand up for your rights
Get up, stand up, stand up for your rights
Get up, stand up, don't give up the fight

Preacher man don't tell me
Heaven is under the earth
I know you don't know
What life is really worth
It's not all that glitters is gold
Half the story has never been told
So now you see the light
Stand up for your rights

Get up, stand up, stand up for your rights
Get up, stand up, don't give up the fight
Get up, stand up, stand up for your rights
Get up, stand up, don't give up the fight

Most people think
Great God will come from the skies
Take away everything
And make everybody feel high
But if you know what life is worth
You would look for yours on earth
And now you've seen the light
You stand up for your rights

  1. I do not share at all those ideas, that guy influenced the society in a very bad way, through his influence on weak minds to whom he idealised canabis ! Berk !
