If you're doing something
illegal on your property, likelyhood is the rest of us need protection from you
and i hope the police and big brother take advantage of every possible
opportunity and devise to catch you. ~ Response from a British Columbian in favour of smart meters. Smart grids are a hot topic at the moment here ~ with some who actually think things through! This response is scary but also elaborates on what Zen has to say below about these meters and how blindly ignorant so many are to the dangers.
Can't you just see it? Someone down the line realizes you are taking 7 minute instead of 3 minute showers so suddenly, half way through shampooing your hair one morning, the water turns off? Or they decide you have left your car plugged in for an hour too long when you are trying to keep it from freezing over one icy January morning in Winnipeg?
It isn't just the pot growers they are after!
I have used a few images from Canada as well because we, too, are fighting the same battles. With just about as much apathy from the general public as can be seen by the quote above. I suppose all those signs below from BC resisters means that they, too "are afraid of change"?

They're pushing this
smart grid hard, folks. While we hear of a few brave souls standing up to these dangerous and invasive so-called smart meters,
know that the US government is heavily bankrolling this continued massive roll
out of their intrusive program.
And when a massive Fed
subsidy was first announced in 2009, Mr. "Hope and Change" dismissed
any objections simply as "fear of change".
Absurd.
OBAMA: $3.4B FOR ‘SMART’
POWER GRID
The money will go to 100 projects in 49 states to add automated substations, digital transformers, electric meters in homes and other high-tech equipment to create a “smart” grid.“We’re going to create an energy superhighway,” Mr. Obama said when making the announcement at Florida Power & Light Co.’s DeSoto Next Generation Solar Energy Center in Arcadia, Fla., one of the country’s biggest solar-power facilities.Mr. Obama used the nationally televised event to promote climate-change legislation in Congress that would reduce greenhouse gas emissions over time.“We’ve heard these arguments before,” he said. “People don’t like change. They get nervous.”
COMPLETE DIS OF EVEN ANY THOUGHT
OF DISCUSSION
That kind of elitist
arrogance should infuriate every American.
"We've heard these arguments before."In other words, shut up!And "People don't like change. They get nervous."
WTF? Where's hopey
changey man? Didn't he run on a "CHANGE" platform? Is the country so
deep in cognitive dissonance they can't even HEAR anymore?
Or is this supposed to be
one of the "changes we can believe in"?
Sorry, but besides being
completely hypocritical, that's so blatantly elitist snot-speak that it is off
the charts! He (they) sweeps away any and all challenges to their "big
idea" in one short arrogant statement ~ dutifully quoted by the corporate
media. Amazing.
SUBSIDIZING MEGA RICH CORPORATIONS...FOR RIGHTS TO
YOUR INFO?
The
money will be released in the form of grants through the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act, and recipients will have to match the federal money with an
equal amount of private investment.
Administration officials said that the program includes $4.7 billion in private investments and that grants range from $400,000 to $200 million.“They’ve got some real skin in the game here, which also makes good economic sense,” said Jared Bernstein, chief economist and economic adviser to Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr.
Whatta crock.
And people wonder how the
corporate takeover happened?
And they're paying only
half the cost instead of all of it, while they derive the benefits.
And the real reason?
Is it collusion with the
power companies for info, as in the case of Google, Facebook, IBM, Microsoft,
Apple and host of others?
NOW THE NASTY NEXT PHASE
Read this carefully:
For example, Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. will receive $200 million and invest $251 million of its own to install 1.1 million smart meters and the information systems to manage them. The money also will go toward installing 400,000 in-home devices, including communicating thermostats and in-home displays to help consumers manage their power usage. (Emphasis mine) (source article)
This isn't about
consumers managing their power usage, it's about the GRID spying on and
managing YOUR power usage and a range of other activities.
It's not just a power meter;
it's devices being installed INTO the home as well. Wonder what the real
purpose and capabilities of the new devices are?
If the meter can tell
what you're watching on TV, what will Mr. Thermostat be picking up?
BTW, almost all
appliances come chip installed and smart grid ready now, and have been for some
time, even if you haven't had a use for this capability..or so you thought.
Doesn't that make you
feel safer? Your smart reader is probably already monitoring more personal info
than we'd like to imagine.
Why do you think the
government subsidizes your changing out your water heater, refrigerator, etc?
Just to save power and
money?
Think about it.
Under the guise of “reducing greenhouse gas emissions” and “reducing energy bills”, utility companies all over the United States are forcing tens of millions of American families to accept sophisticated surveillance devices in their homes.Currently, approximately 9 percent of all electric meters in the U.S. have been converted over to smart meters. It is being projected that by 2012, the number of smart meters in use will rise to 52 million, and the federal government is spending a lot of money to help get these installed everywhere.Eventually the goal is to have these smart meters in all of our homes and if that ever happened there would essentially be no more privacy.Once installed, a smart meter monitors your home every single minute of every single day and it transmits very sophisticated data about your personal behavior back to the utility company. CONCLUSION
This should be fought
tooth and tong. On local levels it's been happening, but when the Feds bring in
these big mandates it gets even more difficult.
Far too many Americans
are taking this lying down, buying into the bogus "green" storyline,
or think they're saving everyone money and electricity.
A joke, a bad one.
The American power
structures serve humanity like McDonalds serves cattle.
Stay sharp.
Love, Zen
