I just stumbled on to a veritable treasure trove of Russian historic photographs. Oddly, the occasional Facebook page is truly memorable and this page is top drawer. It belongs to a niece of the Romanovs and is more than full of never-seen-before photographs of life with the royal Romanovs. My only problem is my lack of ability to translate but the images speak volumes.
Most interesting to me were the ones below depicting the Romanovs as Christian martyrs, VERY potent imagery considering that the atheist Bolsheviks (Communists) then proceeded to leave many millions of Russian Christian bodies in their wake.
Great stuff, Noor. Thanks! I'd only change the "agnostic" to "atheist Jew." There used to be some tee-shirts at cafepress.com with Holy Russian Martyrs. But no more it seems.
ReplyDeleteI was in a room with Romanov caskets from the time of the killing of the "sacred blood" in the 1880's assassination of Paul 2 in St. Petersburg. The envy of the west is palpable.
